BackstoryLeBron James has been leaving his mark on the world since he was a kid. After a rough childhood, within which he moved often and lived in some seedy neighborhoods in Akron, Ohio. But that all turned around once he found basketball. He played with the Northeast Ohio Shooting Stars (part of the Amateur Athletic Union) alongside his close friends Sian Cotton, Dru Joyce III, and Willie McGee. These four players were inseparable and gave themselves the nickname “The Fab Four.” They all planned on attending high school together, and in the power play of the century, they chose to attend St. Vincent-St. Mary High School.

This was hugely controversial, considering how the school was a predominantly white, Catholic school. Shrugging off the tension, James excelled in both basketball and football during his time at St. Vincent-St. Mary. His football career came to an end when he broke his wrist during his senior year. Not that I’m saying LeBron wouldn’t have made a great football player, but with him standing strong at 6’8”, you have to wonder if he was really meant to do anything but play basketball.
