Background: Growing up, it was always odd for us to see Christmas abbreviated as "X-mas." We thought it was related to the X-Men. After years of suspense, we were able to hire a private investigator to get to the bottom of this age old mystery. We've decided to share our findings in this exclusive holiday Christmas card, a perfect gift to stop the madness.
In December 2012, New York radio station Power 105 asked rapper/ rap legend DMX aka Dark Man X to read lyrics to the classic Christmas song "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer" originally written by Johnny Marks in 1949 based on the 1939 story Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. DMX surprised many when he refused to read the song's lyrics off the page, and instead rapping the song word for word by memory.
Fast forward to November 29, 2017, five years since the video was posted and became an internet meme staple,
Spotify released a collection of one-off covers of Christmas classics. This collection included an official version of DMX's "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer" complete with a jolly Christmas beat. The Spotify version is a more polished piece, but DMX retains all of his signature combative vocal style.
And just for reference and contrast, here's the original "Rudolph, the Red-Nosed Reindeer":
Why is Christmas called X-Mas? The mystery is finally solved in this hilarious Christmas holiday card. It has everything to do with DMX & Rudolph The Reindeer.
